We started out to have a 'low key' day ... ha ... that lasted until 11AM. Then we started walking. Our first stop was at the old Court House where Dred & Harriett Scott sued the state of Missouri for freedom from slavery in 1846. It local court through a jury granted them their freedom, however; their 'owner' appealed the decision ... it then took 11 years to go through the Supreme Court came back and repealed the decision. So ... just as today politics played a tremendous role ... to get more info you'll have to goggle it ... it is rather an interesting part of history and played a part in the Civil War.
Just one other note ... this dome was created by the same guy (don't remember his name just now...) who then went to Washington D.C. and designed the Capitol Dome.
We then walked to Union Station, then caught the Metro to Laclede Landing down on the Mississippi. These were interesting but not too much to write home about.
One more point of interest ... I have found that so many of the buildings in St. Louis have wonderful lights. I am taking pictures and am hoping that I can figure out a way to link this site to a folder of nothing but the various lights. The are so amazing ... I think you'd enjoy! Anyway, I'll be working on it.

Hey you! I almost forget to check in. It is 11 pm and I just finished watching "On the Beach". Talk about depressing. Glad to here you had a good time on old St Louie! I had a good time today, shot 74 but missed alot of putts. What else is new. The puppys are calling. Talk to you tomorrow!

The architect of the Old Courthouse dome is William Rumbold, it is modeled after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.
The US Capitol dome was designed by the Philadelphia architect Thomas U. Walter, who was also the architect of the House and Senate extensions.
Both domes were built around roughly the same time, although due to the complexity of the construction they both took many years to complete.
