San Francisco de Asis - Taos, NM

This is considered to be the most photographed church in New Mexico. When we were there, everyone had a camera. Because of its a hand-sculptured adobe-buttressed back it is considered to be one of the purest architectural forms in North America. Because sunlight changes the feel of this church, G.E. Kidder Smith wrote in "The Architecture of the United States" that "one almost shakes in its presence."

This church was painted by Georgia O'Keeffe. She wrote, "I had to paint it. The back of it several times and once in the front. I finally painted a part of the back thinking that with that piece of the back I said all I needed to say about the church."

It is known that this little church moved Ansel Adams to take up a career in photography. In 1930, he was going to be a concert pianist and changed his dedication to photography.

No Pictures were allowed inside, so we bought cards and postcards, I'll take pictures of those and put them in a separate posting.

These were 'old' adobe structures that were on the sides of the church.

Then on the other side of the church, this little home existed.
and then there are the flowers...
