Toilets...

If you have an aversion to reading about the various 'toilets' we've experienced, STOP here. If not, then imagine and enjoy.

When a person has been on the road for 7-weeks one learns, "Any port in a storm" or "Any storm in a port" as the case may be. We have had lots of the infamous holes in the ground with walls and roof around them ... some not too bad; others uuuugggggggghhhhhhhhh. But there have been some that just standout, so here we go.

- Bryce Canyon. There was an option of 3 liter flush or 6 liter flush. I'll leave the rest to your imagination.

- Navajo Bridge. We stopped at the bridge to look for Condor. The bridge is famous because it was the first bridge to cross the Colorado River back in the day. There is a visitor's center and the whole nine yards. The bathroom was beautiful. It was a hole in the ground type; however, there was NO oder what-so-ever. There were signs describing this 'new' way of keeping it oderless. So, let me share this. It wasn't just the stuff they used in the pit, they must have had big 'ass' fans blowing across the pit that blew cold air across/under the seat. Again, I'll leave this to your imagination ... but it was a shock to have all that cold air blowing up your...

- Thunderbird Lodge - Canyon de Chelly. OK, one of us uses the toilet in our room. Flush; brown water. Flush; still brown water. Flush again; still brown water. Keep flushing ... its got to go away, right? Panick starts to set in ... finally call the front desk for help. They are working on the water system. Oh, what a relief ... I think? Run the water in the sink ... brown. OK, bottled water is wonderful!!! No showers tonight, for that matter, skip showers until we get to our next stop!

- Ghost Ranch - No flushing problems here. I swear there must have been a serious vacumm attached to the thing. No kidding around, you wouldn't want to be sitting on it when you flushed, you might not ever get unattached. Man, after our experience at Thunderbird, this was amazing!!
