Cedar Forest, Avalanche Hike, Glacier National Park

Fred & I went through these woods in order to get to the Avalanche trail head. The woods are very dark and quiet and very beautiful. I didn't get any good pictures of the actual trees as they are about 400 to 600 years old; therefore, very tall. The reason the woods are so old is because there has not been fire in this area. This root base was at least 25' by 30'.
The bark on this Cottonwood was so deep that if you put your hand in it, the bark would have been deeper than your hand. Hope that makes sense.
